Who can register at

Start-up companies that can demonstrate that they are operating under key circular economy principles - remanufacture, reuse, repurpose, upcycle or downcycle (waste of one industry used as feed-stock for another), and that can recover the embodied energy and separate the materials via de-polymerization and de-alloying methods.

Your products or services must have a clear identifiable circular economy strategy. You could be formed as a start-up as a result of splitting a pre-existing business.

Registering your company on My Circular Business is totally free and without any obligation. At the most basic level, it will give you publicity as a registered company along with featured content on the blog.

A Circular Model of Business

If you are a start-up operating in area of 2nd life and beyond and/or using sustainable materials to produce your product, then you are invited to join in and get yourself listed on My Circular Business.

A circular economy or a closed-loop system is designed in such a way so that waste becomes food. Just as in forests, waste of one organism is a food for another, our industrial world needs to be like forests and replace the concept of end-of-life disposal with various resource recovery methods such as reuse, reconditioning, remanufacturing and recycling. The diagram above shows how circular economy strategies can put reduced strain on nature's resources to minimize disposal and maximize the embodied energy in the products.

Third Life

A typical example of a 3rd life product could be an electric car battery that is no longer fit for use in a vehicle and can be repurposed to be used in another application such as energy storage or used to power drones and forklifts etc.

Second Life

A typical example of a 2nd life is engine remanufacturing which is highly prevalent in automotive, aircraft, photocopier and related industries. Once an engine comes to an end of its first life, they get remanufactured to 'like-new' condition with same warranty as that of the new.

Fourth Life

A typical example of a 4th life product could be a product like a fleece jacket made from recycled plastic pellets of the PET bottles, as in the case of Patagonia and Coca Cola. This is a classic case of a much smaller company making use of the waste produced from a much larger company.

Continuous loops

These cycles can be repeated endlessly giving products new leases of lives thus not only keeping the material extracted from earth in much longer use but also preserving the embodied energy in making those products in the first place for as long as possible with very little waste at every step.
